A November 26 letter from the presidency asked the head of Uganda's national drug authority to 'work out a mechanism' to clear the importation of the vaccines.
China has about five COVID-19 vaccine candidates at different levels of trials. It was not clear what vaccine was being imported into Uganda.
One of the frontrunners is the Sinopharm vaccine developed by the Beijing Institute of Biological Product, a unit of Sinopharm’s China National Biotec Group (CNBG).
On Wednesday, the United Arab Emirates said the vaccine has 86% efficacy, citing an interim analysis of late-stage clinical trials.
China has used the drug to vaccinate up to a million people under its emergency use program.
On Tuesday, Morocco said it was ordering up to 10 million doses of the vaccine.
Record cases
Uganda on Monday registered 701 new COVID-19 cases, the highest-ever daily increase, bringing its national count to 23,200.
The new cases were out of the 5,578 samples tested for the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, the country's health ministry said in a statement.
Tuesday's tally was 606, the second-highest ever number of new infections, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the east African country to 23,860.
Health authorities have blamed ongoing election campaigns which have drawn huge crowds for the rise in infections.
To not get the vaccine would be giving up an opportunity to protect ourselves, our health, and the health and livelihood of our friends and community

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States was on the cusp of marking at least 100,000 deaths from the coronavirus, a once-unthinkable toll that now appears to be just the beginning of untold misery in the months ahead as Las Vegas casinos and Walt Disney World make plans to reopen, crowds of unmasked Americans swarm beaches and public health officials predict a resurgence by fall.
In the U.S., President Donald Trump several months ago likened the coronavirus to the flu and dismissed worries that it could lead to so many deaths.
According to figures tracked by Johns Hopkins University, the death rate per 100,000 people is lower in the U.S. than Italy, France and Spain but higher than Germany, China, South Korea, Singapore, Japan, New Zealand and Australia.
Countries with low death rates suppressed the virus “through lots of testing, contact tracing and policies to support isolation and quarantine of people at risk,” Michaud said.
SeaWorld and Walt Disney World plan to reopen to undisclosed limited numbers of tourists in Orlando, Florida, in June and July after months of being shuttered.

A French court will rule on genocide suspect Felicien Kabuga's extradition on June 3 after his bail request was denied on May 27.
Kabuga appeared in court on Wednesday, May 27, a week after his lawyers were granted more time to prepare their case.
Representatives of the Collectif des Parties Civiles pour le Rwanda (CPCR), which works to bring Genocide suspects in France to book, were in court on Wednesday.
Court heard that Kabuga opposed his extradition because his arrest warrant is not in a language he understands.
After his interrogation by prosecution early last week, Kabuga also made his first court appearance in the Paris Court of Appeal, on May 20.
Trump didn’t get out of his vehicle as secret Service agents escorted him to his Virginia golf course. The motorcade returned about three hours later as Trump headed back to the White House. Again, the crowd of supporters went wild, cheering “stop the steal,” and waving banners that read, “Trump 2020: Keep America great,” and “All aboard the Trump train.”
Inherent in this is a refusal to examine power and our relationship with it.
Shared governance should not be about solidification of powers at the top for the two main parties, but a governance system that is inclusive and focused on the development of all of our people.
The powerful will always wield their power against those with less and it is in this understanding that we must move away from the idea of individual group power.
We must not only challenge the power systems that oppress us, but the power relations inherent in how we deal with each other because oppressive systems ultimately rely and thrive on our divisions.
So when we challenge power systems and hierarchies we should be careful not to replicate them and seek to ensure that the poorest and most marginalized groups are not further put at a disadvantage.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness, along with former prime ministers PJ Patterson and Bruce Golding say they are willing to roll up their sleeves and take the COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes available. WASHINGTON, DC, United States (AP) - The global hunt for a COVID-19 vaccine for kids is only just beginning - a lagging start that has some US paediatricians worried they may not know if any shots work for young children in time for the next school year.

The revelation leaves a pin in a conversation around how medical authorities will address distributing the virus to Black communities, disproportionately ravaged by the virus and rightfully cautious due to long-held racist practices in medicine.

As the tragic murder of Rayshard Brooks is still fresh on the minds of protestors in Atlanta and nationwide, a charge has been levied upon one of the officers in the case.
Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard also announced at a Wednesday (June 17) news conferences the charges for Officer Devin Brosnan, who faces three charges of aggravated assault, violation of oath, and failing to render timely medical aid.
Rolfe faces a potential life sentence for the felony murder charge, while Brosnan can face a range of one to 20 years in prison.
Rolfe’s attorney added, “Officer Rolfe is well known to the courts and there is no compelling reason to bring any charges against them before the GBI has completed its investigation and published its findings.”
Curiously, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) wrote on its Facebook page that they were unaware that Howard was set to bring charges against Rolfe and Brosnan.
By FRANK BAJAK AP Technology Writer BOSTON (AP) — IBM security researchers say they have detected a cyberespionage effort using targeted phishing emails to try to collect vital information on the World Health Organization's initiative for distributing COVID-19 vaccine to developing countries. The researchers said they could not be sure who was behind the campaign, which began in September, or if it was successful. But the precision targeting and careful efforts to leave no tracks bore 'the potential hallmarks of nation-state tradecraft,' they said in a blog post Thursday. The campaign's targets, in countries including Germany, Italy, South Korea and […]

The two Zimbabwean journalists arrested last week as they were investigating the abduction of three opposition party members have been released on bail, a lawyers' association said on Tuesday.
The pair were \"ordered not to interfere with witnesses and continue to reside at the addresses they gave the police until the matter comes to an end\", he said outside the Mbare magistrate's court in the capital.
Chikowore and Takawira were arrested on Friday at a private hospital where they were conducting interviews with an opposition lawmaker and two party officials.
Accused of not maintaining adequate social distancing between themselves and interviewees, the journalists were arrested by a police officer guarding the hospital and charged with breaching regulations to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Last month a Zimbabwean high court ordered police to desist from arresting, detaining or interfering with the work of journalists providing coverage during the Covid-19 lockdown which began March 30 in the southern African country.

The findings were published on Friday, days after an American biotechnology company announced that it had also developed a vaccine that has been found to be safe and able to stimulate an immune response in the human body against the virus.
The study on 108 adults found that one dose of the vaccine, known as recombinant adenovirus type-5 vectored Covid-19 vaccine (AD5), tested at three different levels on healthy adults aged between 18 and 60 years, appeared to induce a good immune response in some subjects.
The researchers tested the blood of volunteers (enrolled from one site in Wuhan) at regular intervals following vaccination to see whether the vaccine stimulated both arms of the immune system: the body’s ‘humoral response — the part of the immune system that produces neutralising antibodies, which can fight infection and could offer a level of immunity — and the body’s cell-mediated arm, which depends on a group of T cells, rather than antibodies, to fight the virus.
The trial demonstrates that a single dose of the new adenovirus type 5 vectored Covid-19 (Ad5-nCoV) vaccine produces virus-specific antibodies and T cells in 14 days, making it a potential candidate for further investigation,” said Prof Wei Chen from the Beijing Institute of Biotechnology, who is responsible for the study.
The challenges in the development of a Covid-19 vaccine are unprecedented, and the ability to trigger these immune responses does not necessarily indicate that the vaccine will protect humans from Covid-19.
