Windwards crush Leewards in Rising Stars U-19 Champs - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

JANNELLIA Glasgow delivered with bat and ball to lead Windward Islands to a massive 122-run victory over Leeward Islands in the West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 Women’s 2022 Championships at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex, on Friday.

Glasgow struck 38 off 30 balls to guide Windward Islands to 176/8 in 20 overs. Glasgow, who hit six fours, was supported by Namiah Marcellin who made 37 off 26 deliveries.

Jahzara Claxton was the best bowler for Leewards taking 3/29 in three overs. Kimberly Anthony grabbed 2/15 in four overs and Gabrielle Harrylall snatched 2/36 in four overs.

In reply, Leeward Islands were dismissed for 35 in 13.5 overs. Glasgow was the chief destroyer with 3/3 in four overs, Abini St Jean took 3/7 in three overs and Zaida James bagged 2/11 in 2.5 overs.

Claxton was the top scorer for Leewards with 11 off 39 balls.

The first match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy between Barbados and the US was abandoned because of rain. Barbados were 16/3 when the match was called off.

The second match at Tarouba was also interrupted by rain, but Jamaica defeated Guyana by 18 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method.

TT had a bye on Friday, but will play Jamaica from 9.30 am at Diego Martin Sporting Complex in round four on Saturday.

JAMAICA 115/3 (20 overs) – Lena Scott 43, Kate Wilmott 29 not out vs GUYANA 87/3 (Revised target 106 in 18 overs) – Naomi Barkoye 27; Kimarie Campbell 2/7. Jamaica won by 18 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method.

SATURDAY’S FIXTURES: Jamaica vs TT, Diego Martin Sporting Complex, 9.30 am; Leeward Islands vs USA, Brian Lara Cricket Academy, 10 am; Windward Islands vs Barbados, Brian Lara Cricket Academy, 2.30 pm.
