WEST Indies Under-19 women will go after a series-clinching win when the fifth and final Twenty/20 against the US bowls off from 10 am at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground, University of the West Indies, St Augustine on July 27.
Captained by TT allrounder Samara Ramnath, the West Indies youngsters hold a 2-1 series lead and will be pressing for another win in the critical final T20.
The series has been hampered by rainy weather and has featured many low-scoring battles. In the fourth T20 on July 25, rain had the final say in the contest as the match was called off after just 7.1 overs due to the weather.
After being inserted by the US, the hosts got to 29 for two before the heavens opened up, with Ramnath (five not out) and opener Asabi Callender (11 not out) at the wicket. Isani Vaghela had a bright start to the contest as she grabbed the wickets of Elecia Bowman and Naijanni Cumberbatch off consecutive deliveries in the sixth over to give the US the perfect start.
The US will be aiming to bounce back from the narrow five-run loss they suffered in the third T20 on July 24, when Abigail Bryce took a stunning catch off the last ball of the rain-affected encounter to give the hosts a win. The third T20 was reduced to an 11-over contest after persistent rain.
Weather permitting, Ramnath and her Windies charges will try to defy the visitors in the final game of their series.
