With over 300 confirmed Guyanese stranded overseas during the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, four cricketers stranded in Trinidad and Tobago are expected to be reunited with their families at home.
According to Lusignan Sports Club batsman, Steve Ramdass, he, along with Kandasammy Surujnarine, Garfield Benjamin and Demitri Cameron are expected to return home.
Ramdass, in an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday explained that through the media they learnt about the national Covid Task Force (NCTF) aiding stranded law students in Trinidad and quickly reached out to people for help.
The former Demerara under-19 opener said that journalists, John Ramsingh, who is also stranded in the United States of America and Avinash Ramzan “helped us get into contact with all the other people stranded worldwide and we worked as a team…we had to send a lot of e-mails to the consulate in Trinidad and the Task Force.”
While no flight has been designated, Ramdass informed this publication that they all have return flights via Caribbean Airlines but the consulate is expected to assist in organizing a flight through Caribbean Airlines or Liat.

“We started out slow but after we received more computers we found it took about 15 minutes to go from the first table at the entrance until you get done with testing,” Waterman explained.
The test sites offer testing inside and drive-up testing for those who are more susceptible to COVID-19 or are unable to stand in line.
Because a lot of people who have contracted COVID-19 can be asymptomatic (without symptoms), testing everyone helps inform those who have the virus about their status so they can self-quarantine.

When the governor established a statewide stay-at-home order, this signaled to many that he was making an effort to put people and public health before business.
The Governor’s confidence in the roll-out of phase-one was based on assessments done by the Maryland Department of Health which tracked data surrounding hospitalizations.
While hospitalization has plateaued, and at times, made dedicated decreases over the last few weeks, the Maryland Department of Health data offers receipts that make it very clear now is not the time to let up on strict social distancing and restrictions on non-essential activities.
While Blacks make up 30 percent of the Maryland population, they account for 40 percent of COVID confirmed cases and 43 percent of deaths, for which data is available.
Yet again, Black communities are disproportionately the hardest hit across the state and stand to be further exposed to COVID, hospitalization and related death as a result of the governor’s Executive Order.
Jeffrey L. Boney Shares His Personal Journey of Surviving the Coronavirus and Dealing with the Emotional and Mental Anguish Required to Overcome COVID-19
Jeffrey L. Boney with his doctor, Dr. Joseph Varon and his nurse, Jerusha Brown Harshman
One of the first things Dr. Varon ordered his medical staff to do with me upon my arrival to the ER was to do a CT Scan.
The CT Scan revealed that my lungs showed a severe case of pneumonia, as well as other issues involving my vital organs that came as a result of the Coronavirus.
Not only did I have a severe case of pneumonia when I entered ICU, my liver and kidneys also needed to be protected from the virus; my heart rate was through the roof; my heart condition worsened and I was headed to the point of potential heart failure; my blood pressure was high; I had a sharp pain in my right side; I continued to have heavy diarrhea episodes; and I still had a loss of appetite.
From the very beginning, I had to rely on my faith in God, as I continued to deal with the mental anguish of being in this Coronavirus-specific ICU area, particularly knowing that there were people around with breathing issues and hearing machines go off all day and night, and as I regularly looked at the news and read reports showing the number of people dying on a daily basis as a result of the virus.
Per Dr. Varon, my case taught them that they must use high dose blood thinners on every Coronavirus patient admitted to the hospital.
