THE EDITOR: Trinis love to follow fashion but we always choose the easy way out.
In the US citizens had a problem with President Joe Biden and his age, even supporters of his party had concerns. He eventually saw the writing on the wall and bowed out gracefully.
In this country we have two leaders, one for the red party and the other for the yellow party. One has lost eight elections and the other, after nearly nine years, has turned the country into a failed nation and is still holding on. These are people who pass laws to tell you when you must retire but they, in their 70s, are determined to hold on.
These people have served their time for more than 30 years, They have all the benefits as members of Parliament and prime ministers. Still, they are determined to continue, supported by a handful of people in whose interest it is to keep them there, and the majority continue to suffer.
Their speeches are rarely uplifting. They don't give any meaningful plans for the country. It's the same old talk and name-calling.
Politics is about the future, not the past, and our leaders are of the past and we need workhorses, not showhorses. So, until citizens start to continuously demand a change of leadership for both parties, then be prepared to accept what you have and get.
