An accident on the Tarouba Link Road near South Park Mall left a motorcyclist dead on Monday morning.
Dead is Ezekiel Maharaj of Chatham in Cedros.
Eyewitnesses told Newsday that shortly before 9 am, Maharaj tried to overtake a truck transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) east near the traffic lights.

However, he came into contact with the back left side of the moving truck as he tried to filter into the lane.
On impact, Maharaj was pitched into the road, and the bike skated under the left side of the truck.
The fuel tank of his bike was detached and caught fire.
The truck driver, of Ramdass Sales and Services Ltd, stopped and put out the fire.
Maharaj died on the scene. The accident caused a traffic pile-up and police directed traffic.
Newsday learnt that the truck driver was heading to Port of Spain. It was unclear where Maharaj was going.

Apart from police and fire officers, curious onlookers gathered at the scene.
One man said Maharaj had overtaken other vehicles moments before the crash.
No one else was injured.
W/Cpl Mohan, PC Jointe, and other Mon Repos police visited and gathered evidence.
