TT crush Leeward Islands in Regional Women’s Super50 - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

TT OPENED their CG United Women's Super50 Cup with a resounding eight-wicket win over Leeward Islands at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, on Friday.

Leeward Islands scored 132/8 in 50 overs, before TT responded with 134/2 in 35 overs in the Group B clash.

Leeward Islands lost wickets quickly and were reduced to 13/4 in the 12th over. Shawnisha Hector, who was recently named as a member of the Trinbago Knight Riders women's team for the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League, tried to steady the innings with 46. Her knock came off 60 deliveries and included seven fours.

Rozel Liburd offered resistance at the end of the innings with 31 not out off 39 balls.

Amanda Edwards and Liburd combined to put on 45 runs for the eighth wicket after being reduced to 87/7 after 38.4 overs. Edwards, who scored 29 off 41 deliveries, was run out off the final ball of the innings.

Bowling for TT, Kirbyina Alexander was the chief destroyer with 3/20 in ten overs.

The trio of Caniesha Isaac (1/21), Lee Ann Kirby (1/17) and Anisa Mohammed (1/26) all grabbed one wicket each.

Reniece Boyce and Djenaba Joseph put on 71 runs inside 17 overs for the first wicket to lay a solid platform.

Boyce, who was the more aggressive of the two openers, fell for 35 off 56 deliveries. She struck four fours.

Joseph followed shortly after for 15 off 46 balls to leave TT 77/2.

Shenelle Lord and Mohammed then joined forces to guide TT to the target without any further hiccups.

Lord ended on 30 not out off 53 balls and Mohammed contributed 20 not out off 54.

On Sunday, TT will play Guyana at the Guyana National Stadium from 9.30 am.

TT will be guaranteed a spot in the semifinals with a victory.
