Dylan Carter returns to the Paris La Defense Arena pool on August 1 to contest the qualifying round of the men’s 50m freestyle event from 5.18am (TT time).
Carter, 28, swims out of lane six in heat eight of ten and will only advance to the semi-final round if his time is in the top 16 of the 74 contesting swimmers.
This is his final event at the Summer Games and must give it all in the pool if he is to bolster his chances of securing his inaugural Olympic medal.
Swimming alongside him in lane five is Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medalist Florent Manaudou of France while reigning Olympic champion and 50m free Olympic record holder, American Caeleb Dressel, vies for a semi-final spot in lane five heat ten.
This is Carter’s second event at the Paris Games and will be hoping for an improved showing.
On July 30, he did not advance past the preliminary round of the 100m freestyle after finishing last in the seventh of ten heats. He clocked 49.35 seconds.
Splashing on to win gold in this event was China’s Zhanle Pan in a world record time of 46.40s. Australian Kyle Chalmers (47.48s) and Romanian David Popovici (47.49s) earned silver and bronze respectively.
TT resume their Olympic quest on August 2 with Michelle-Lee Ahye scheduled to take on the opening rounds of women’s 100m qualification.
