Trinidad and Tobago referees to officiate Gold Cup matches - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

The Trinidad and Tobago trio of Cecile Hinds, Crystal Sobers and Carissa Douglas have received refereeing appointments for this week's matches in the Concacaf women's Gold Cup qualifiers.

Hinds will referee the League C group stage match between Grenada and the US Virgin Islands at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in St George's, Grenada on Wednesday.

At the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, St Lucia on Wednesday, Sobers will serve as the fourth official in the League B match between Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda. Sobers will also take charge of the League B group stage match between Guyana and Suriname at the Dr Ir Franklin Essed Stadion in Paramaribo, Suriname on Sunday. Sobers will have the company of her TT compatriot Douglas in Paramaribo, as the latter has been appointed one of the assistant referees for that encounter.

In December 2022, Sobers and Hinds were among six TT officials appointed to Fifa's international list of officials for 2023. Kwinsi Williams was the other.

Caleb Wales, Ainsley Rochard and Evelyn Douglas-Jacob were appointed to the international list as assistant referees. Wales famously officiated at the Qatar 2022 Fifa World Cup – turning out as the assistant referee in the group-stage match between Iran and Wales on November 25, 2022.

The TT women's team, coached by Richard Hood, are grouped in League A of the Concacaf Gold Cup qualifiers alongside Mexico and Puerto Rico.

TT were thumped 6-0 by Mexico in their opening qualifying match in Pachuca on September 26. TT will host Puerto Rico at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo from 7 pm on Friday, before playing away to Puerto Rico on October 31.

The top team in each of the three League A groups will qualify for the group stage of the 2024 Concacaf women’s Gold Cup. The three runners-up in the League A groups will play the three winners of the respective League B groups for a spot in the Gold Cup preliminary round.
