THE TT cycling pair of Syndel Samaroo and Makaira Wallace were both eliminated from medal contention in their respective keirin and sprint events at the UCI Junior Track World Championships in Cali, Colombia, on Thursday.

Samaroo, who competed in the men's keirin, finished second in heat three behind Kazakhstan's Mukhtar Ramazan and was subsequently placed in the repechage race. In heat three of the repechage, though, Samaroo bowed out as he brought up the rear in the five-man field, with Japan's Yamazaki Ayumu riding to victory.

In the women's sprint event, Wallace advanced from the preliminary stage with the 19th best time overall (11.776 seconds). In heat nine of 1/16 finals, Wallace came up against Italy's Beatrice Bertolini, with the Italian rider just passing Wallace before the line to advance to the 1/8 finals.

Samaroo and Wallace were two of the brightest stars for TT in the recent Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG), each copping a silver and a bronze medal in the seventh edition of the games, which were staged on home soil. Samaroo got podium finishes in the keirin and match sprint events, while Wallace medalled in the keirin and the 500-metre time trial.

Samaroo will compete in the men's sprint Friday, while Wallace will contest the women's keirin on Sunday. Samaroo and Wallace are TT's only representatives at the ongoing Junior Track World Championships which conclude on August 27.
