The Ministry of Tourism is in early discussions with key players in regional airlift to enhance Barbados’ connectivity with neighbouring Caribbean islands.Although she did not go into details about the talks between Barbados and regional aviation administrators, Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Lisa Cummins told Barbados TODAY that Government was interested in exploring airlift possibilities with the Cayman Islands and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).She shared Barbados’ goal to enhance intra-regional travel during her remarks in a panel discussion on Wednesday entitled Multi-Destination Tourism on Caribbean Aviation Day, during the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO)/International Air Transport Association (IATA) conference being held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Grand Cayman.Cummins said that intra-regional travel was just as important as international travel and she wanted to see regional connectivity developed to a level where scores of passengers could arrive in multiple Caribbean states on the same day on the same airline.“We have to make sure that our neighbours and our sisters and brothers have the opportunity to be able to move freely and that very much is a challenge,” she said.
