Trinidad and Tobago cyclist Syndel Samaroo was knocked out at the 1/16 finals stage in the men's sprint event on day three of the UCI Junior Track World Championships in Cali, Colombia, on Friday.
Samaroo, who copped two medals at the recently concluded Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) which were held in TT, advanced from the qualification round with the 21st-best time overall (10.544 seconds). In heat eight of the 1/16 finals, Samaroo was comfortably beaten by Kazakhstan cyclist Rizvan Beisenbayev who pulled away from the TT rider to finish in a time of 10.818 seconds.
Samaroo's TT compatriot, Makaira Wallace, who also bagged two medals at the CYG, will contest the women's keirin on Sunday as TT seek to finish these games on a high. Samaroo and Wallace are TT's only representatives at the ongoing Junior Track World Championships which will come to and on Sunday.
