THE BUFFALO SOLDIERS NATIONAL MUSEUM ANNOUNCES ITS LEARNING AND HERITAGE-FILLED SUMMER 2024 PROGRAMS Parents are invited to immerse their children in cost-free outdoor adventures. Educators are invited to immerse in empowering learning workshops. Houston, TX – As Summer approaches, Houston's parents and educators seek enriching professional development opportunities for children. The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, which was recognized by the BIPOC Arts Network and Fund (BANF) 2023 as a Houston Cultural Treasure, is excited to announce a summer filled with enriching experiences for students and teachers. Youth Outdoor Exploration Program Open to youth aged 11-17, the Youth Outdoor Exploration Program, in collaboration with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, offers a summer of adventure at no cost. Participants will immerse themselves in various activities, including camping, hiking, equestrian training, golfing, and historical tours, all while exploring the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers in Texas. This program is crafted to inspire, educate, and challenge, fostering a deep appreciation for Texas' natural and cultural heritage. Participants will gain leadership skills and a stronger sense of community under the guidance of experienced rangers. Program Schedule: May 2024: Weekend at Brazos Bend June 2024: Three-day journey to Davis Mountains, including visits to Fort Davis and McKavitt July 2024: Weekend getaway at Lake Livingston August 2024: Coastal retreat at Galveston Island Empowering Educators Teachers will find a treasure trove of resources and workshops to integrate the Buffalo Soldiers' rich history into their curriculum. The museum offers a variety of educator-centric programs, including guided tours and interactive lesson plans, to bring history to life in the classroom.
