December 9, 2024 (JUBA) - South Sudan President Salva Kiir has sacked the army chief of staff, Gen. Santino Deng Wol and appointed Gen. Paul Nang Majok as his replacement. In several decrees read on the state-owned television (SSBC) on Monday evening, the president appointed Gen. Wol as the Undersecretary in the Defense and Veterans Affairs ministry, replacing Atak Santino Majak. In a separate decree, the South Sudanese leader removed the governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), James Alic Garang Alic and appointed Johnny Ohisa Damian as his successor. Ohisa previously served in as the Central Bank governor before he was reappointed on Monday. Meanwhile Kiir named Gen. Abraham Peter Manyuat as the new Inspector General of South Sudan Police Service, replacing Gen. Atem Marol Biar while another decree saw the Finance ministry Undersecretary, Garang Majak sacked and replaced with Arop Nuoi Arop. The decrees did not give reasons why changes occurred in the security and banking sectors. Last month, Kiir ordered investigations into the shootout that occurred at the home of the former intelligence director Gen. Akol Koor Kuc after four people were killed and several others injured.
