The street vendor who was shot on Friday night in Couva, was on Monday still fighting for his life at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the San Fernando General Hospital.
Kendil St Clair turned 27 on Monday, and the police said he was still unconscious.
The police said that at around 8.25 pm, St Clair was packing up his drinks after his day’s sale on the roadside opposite Christian Drive in Mc Bean Village when a car pulled up alongside him.
A man got out of the car, pointed a gun toward the vendor, and opened fire.
The victim was hit on his right leg, right foot, left chest, and right side of his back. St Clair fell to the ground and the gunman got back into the car which drove off. At the time, there were no customers nearby.
Residents who heard the gunshots and later found the wounded victim, alerted the Central Division police and emergency health personnel.
St Clair was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery. Police do not yet have a motive for the shooting and no arrest has been made. WPC Baptiste is leading investigations.
