The vendors and fisherfolk who paved the way for the creation of the Oistins Bay Garden will be acknowledged during the 27th Anniversary celebrations.Chairman of the Oistins Bay Garden Sub-Committee Julia Crawford said as part of a week of activities which commences on Errol Barrow Day, an awards ceremony will be held on January 29 to recognise people who have made a significant contribution to the fishing and market community which is one of the island’s major tourist attractions.“Can you even begin to imagine a Friday night without Oistins or a year without the Oistins Fish Festival? Yes, we have with COVID, but it’s hard to [give up] after all these years. Yet very little is known about the many people who have worked tirelessly and selflessly to ensure that the Oistins we enjoy today was established,” she said.“Many of us, such as myself, are second- and third-generation operators of these food and drink stalls, learning and continuing the legacy of small business men and women determined to provide an authentic Bajan experience to patrons, as well as taking care of our families at the same time.
