A primary school principal questioned when the Common Entrance Exam would finally come to an end, as he insisted that Barbados’ education system is too exam driven.Tyrone Marshall also told 38 Milton Lynch Primary School graduates that the outcome of the secondary school entrance exam should not define them.“We are proud of you. We measure your success by comparing you with you,” he told the students gathered at the Christ Church Foundation School during their graduation ceremony.Speaking to the issue of the pressure placed on students sitting the Barbados Secondary School Entrance Examinations (BSSEE), the principal contended that the exam “unseats” happiness.“Many of the teachers who share my vision for the upliftment of our children have come to the realisation that this educational system in which we exist is much exam driven. It might be the world for some children but it unseats the place of happiness from others,” Marshall said.
