A police officer and another man were shot in Rio Claro on Thursday morning.
Newsday was told the two were taken to the San Fernando General hospital.
Police say PC Ramkissoon, a probationer attached to the Ste Madeleine Police Station, was on his way to work when the incident occurred.
Ramkissoon, who lives in Rio Claro, was in his car when someone in a vehicle in front of his started shooting.
Police say Ramkissoon was not the intended target and was struck by a stray bullet.
The other man, who is yet to be identified, was also shot and is said to be in a critical condition at the hospital.
Investigations are continuing and the story will be updated as more information comes to hand.
