Pan Trinbago is anticipating a higher turnout than last year for its popular annual Pan and Powder parade, given its recent successes.

The pan body celebrated the official declaration of World Steelpan Day by the UN on August 11, and has been celebrating Pan Month with various activities.

Its celebrations continue August 23 in the city.

Media reports last year said the event drew massive crowds.

Pan Trinbago president Beverley Ramsey-Moore said the organisation was winding down its Pan Month activities, which included events like its annual thanksgiving service, the World Steelpan Day celebrations and Pan Ecstasy.

She added that pan was on a high note locally and globally.

“So as we celebrate all of the achievements thus far, Wednesday is definitely going to be another significant day in the history of the steelband movement.”

Ramsey-Moore said more bands were participating in this year’s event.

She also said the organisation expected a “number of its young people” to lead the parade.

On August 26, Pan Month continues with Pan on the Avenue, on Ariapita Avenue from Taylor to Gatacre Streets in Woodbrook. It starts from 6 pm.

Ramsey-Moore said she hoped the powers that be took note of all that the organisation was able to do under her leadership.

“Definitely, in terms of the recognition for Pan Trinbago and our members, I am hoping some mention will be made in some quarters.

“We will definitely appreciate that, and it would definitely give us that push to even go further as we do service to the nation.
