The people of Jackson, Mississippi have gone weeks without safe drinking water after one of the city’s largest water treatment plants experienced failures due to excessive flooding and other infrastructure issues. The city’s main water treatment facility began failing on Monday, Aug. 29 and since then the community has had to rely on bottled water for drinking and cooking. At one point, some people who stood in line for hours were turned away when 700 cases of water ran out. Hospitals and schools have been hit hard as well. Jackson State University football coach, Deion Sanders , said his team has been running in “crisis mode.” Schools have been moved to online learning and President Joe Biden has since issued a State of Emergency.
