A 35-year-old prison officer was able to defend himself against bandits who attacked him and a friend in St Joseph on Tuesday night.
Police said the prison officer, who is assigned to the operations unit, was packing items into his car at a friend's house on Farm Road, St Joseph at around 9 pm when a white Kia drove up.
Two gunmen got out and told the officer and his friend not to move.
The officer took cover and was shot at. He took out his service gun and shot at the gunmen, who got back into their car and drove off.
The officer's friend was grazed by a bullet on her left elbow.
St Joseph CID visited the scene and are continuing enquiries.
