Lt. Edwin Raymond, an active-duty NYPD lieutenant said he is running for the 40th District council district seat, which represents parts of Flatbush, Prospect Park and Crown Heights and is soon to be vacated by incumbent Mathieu Eugene.
Raymond, 34, a 12-year NYPD veteran assigned to Bedford-Stuyvesant who has publicly criticized unofficial quotas and racial discrimination in the department announced Thursday he will run for a City Council seat representing part of Brooklyn.
“Today, it’s easy for the captain’s association to say they want to end Compstat [the NYPD crime statistic tracking system].
Raymond also argues that the NYPD’s budget should be reduced so more money can flow to education, health care, and community groups.
“I have seen his courageous acts that he has demonstrated in my community by doing things like calling out the ills and the wrongs that he has seen personally in the NYPD.
