THE EDITOR: What is the point of opening that Parkade in San Fernando if the streets are choked with vehicles parked on either side of every street? Steups man, Minister Randall.
As the nation is well aware, there is a free-for-all in street parking: so you can park in a free-flow lane on top the arrow; you can park at the flag plaza in Port of Spain; you can park in handicap spaces (police officers take note); and you can park on either side of the road, and to hell with leaving space for the fire tenders (if you can find one) – or the no-parking sign.
It's the same for Port of Spain where ex-mayor Joel Martinez turned a blind eye to parking madness and failed year on year to enforce law and order, unless you had to make way for their excellencies – Erla and Christine.
Indeed, vehicles are parked at the very corner. Have you seen the scandalous parking on Ajax Street? And the customs officers there are so brass-faced that they tell you they are allowed to park as close to the top as possible, and double and triple park. So you take your hit when turning left onto Wrightson Road.
So why spend so much money on a park for pigeons to perch and do their droppings? We should have spent the money to fix the pavements to allow cars to park and fix the roads for people to walk on, because that's where we are.
