Munro, Seifert and Khan return to TKR for CPL 2022 - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

THE New Zealand pair of Colin Munro and Tim Seifert, as well as Pakistan-born United States fast bowler Ali Khan, will return to the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) for the 2022 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), which will take place from August 31 to September 30.

The TKR announced their five overseas signings on Tuesday, two days ahead of the 2022 CPL draft show (where each of the six franchise teams will complete their roster).

Two Sri Lankans, Seekkuge Prasanna and Maheesh Theekshana, complete the list of TKR overseas signings.

Munro, a left-handed batsman, has been part of the TKR set-up since 2016, while Khan has played every season for TKR since 2018.

Seifert, a wicketkeeper/batsman, was part of the successful 2020 TKR squad, and Prasanna, a leg-spinner, played for TKR in 2019.

Theekshana, an off-spinner, will be involved with the CPL for the first time.

TKR director, Venky Mysore, said in a media release, “We are very happy with our overseas signings this year. The idea was to maintain the core of the team while adding a few new resources to bolster the squad for CPL 2022.

“Munro, Khan and Seifert have all made significant contributions to TKR in the past and share a great bond with our local players and the franchise.”

Mysore continued, “We also look forward to welcoming the two Sri Lankans, Prasanna and Theekshana, to complete our overseas roster for TKR this year. Seekkuge, of course, has already represented us in 2019, and with Theekshana coming in, the squad for this (forthcoming) edition is shaping up very nicely for us.”

During the off-season, the TKR reclaimed West Indies "white-ball" captain Nicholas Pooran from the Guyana Amazon Warriors while veteran all-rounder Andre Russell made the switch from the Jamaica Tallawahs.

The other CPL franchise that announced their foreign signings on Tuesday was defending champions St Kitts/Nevis Patriots.

The overseas players chosen by the Patriots will all be making their CPL debuts this year.

Dewald Brevis, the left-handed South African batsman dubbed “the new AB de Villiers”, will be joined by his countryman Dwaine Pretorius, who is a pace-bowling all-rounder, and a pair of leg-spinners – Afghanistan’s Izharulhaq Naveed and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga.

However, Hasaranga will miss the first few matches of the 2022 season, and Pakistani off-spinner Qasim Akram will be with the Patriots until he arrives.

Brevis and Akram participated in the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup, which was staged in the West Indies.
