Miss Black America Pageant Celebrates 55th Anniversary » The New Journal and Guide

The Miss Black America Pageant returns to Atlantic City to mark its 55th anniversary, celebrating a legacy that transcends traditional beauty pageants. Founded by J. Morris Anderson in 1968, it has been a platform for showcasing Black beauty, talent, and intelligence. A parade and festivities lead up to the grand event at Showboat Atlantic Hotel on December 16th. Aleta Anderson emphasizes the pageant's role in providing opportunities for young women and challenging traditional beauty standards. Over 50 women will compete, following in the footsteps of past champions like Oprah Winfrey and Toni Braxton.
