As a new mom, Mackenzie said she didn’t realize the intense feeling of joy that becoming a parent can bring. Mackenzie and her husband got married in 2020 and later had their one-year-old daughter, Mia, with the support of their doula, Karen Sykes.“I enjoy it all, even the hard times, because definitely there are. I’m going through every stage, like right now she’s a toddler and she’s trying to be independent,” Mackenzie said.“The thing I love that really gives me joy in doing this work is [not] just walking alongside the families and really getting that sense of connection, but also giving them tools that will empower them…,” Sykes said.
