Nationwide protests have taken place since October 7 despite the disbanding of the controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) police unit.

The demonstrators have been accused of attacking police stations and personnel.

The rallies which are mostly attended by young people have become avenues to vent against corruption and unemployment.

Rights groups say at least 15 people have been killed the demonstrations began in early October.

Anti-Police Brutality Protest Sees Police Brutality

National armed forces opened fire on Nigerian youth in Lagos at an anti-police brutality demonstration on Tuesday — injuring around 50 people and shooting at least 20 dead, as per unconfirmed reports

Amnesty International which has already condemned the use of excessive force by the Nigerian police to subdue protesters, stated there was ``\"credible but disturbing evidence'' of the incident.

\"While we continue to investigate the killings, Amnesty International wishes to remind the authorities that under international law, security forces may only resort to the use of lethal force when strictly unavoidable to protect against the imminent threat of death or serious injury,\" Amnesty tweeted.

#EndSARS, #EndSWAT and Police Reform.

The escalation in violence comes two weeks after the #EndSarsNow movement took to the streets across Nigeria, following the circulation of video showing a man being beaten, apparently by police officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, known as SARS.

The government proclaimed the dissolution of the police unit which has been accused of human rights crimes including abuse, torture and killings but has since created the Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT) in its stead further inciting the youth to seek complete police reform.

THERE has been a lot of talk regarding nutrition and COVID-19, expressing connections between proper nutrition, and, specifically, the roles of vitamins D, C, A, and minerals such as zinc in supporting immune system function.

• Data from China, Iran, Europe, and the US showed a correlation between vitamin D deficiencies and the cytokine storm — an immune system-related, potentially deadly, lung-damaging COVID-19 complication — which is reported to cause the majority of COVID-19 deaths.

• Even the European countries at lower latitudes and with more sunlight (Southern Italy and Spain) had high rates of vitamin D deficiency and the highest rates of COVID-19 deaths.

• More northerly European countries (Sweden, Norway, and Finland), because of their climate, fortify their foods with vitamin D, resulting in higher vitamin D levels and lower death rates.

Beyond bone-related illnesses, researchers have identified additional, serious vitamin D diseases such as many autoimmune diseases; inflammatory bowel disease; obesity; inflammation; several cancers, including breast, prostate, and colon; cognitive disorder, mental issues; insufficient calcium absorption; and more specifically to our point, infections such as urinary tract infection, pneumonia, and others, and compromised immune functions.

Applying and experimenting with makeup can be a fun and creative experience but for people of diverse ethnicities, it can be disheartening.

For years they have raised concerns about the lack of beauty products for darker skin.

One Zimbabwean born make up artist in Australia is now inspiring younger women to speak out,

\"I think unfortunately often, we are only seeing one shade, or one race being represented all the time,\" said make-up artist Rumbidzai Mudzengi.

\"A lot of the time, it starts to feel like there's no place for us, and I want young people to realise that there is a space for you,\"

\"If you're going to serve someone, you need to do it all the way and you need to cater for everyone, it's really that simple, that's why you get into business.\"

The women say a common problem is with big brand retailers, who mostly cater to light and medium skin tones.

\"Sometimes it's just harder to find the right place that sells the right foundation and stuff for my skin,\"said ons young woman. Another said it \"added to the feeling of being isolated, a bit I guess unwelcome to some degree. The fact that I had to go to special stores just to find my shade, it was a bit of an inconvenience for me.\"

It means they often have to do more research on the products and go to specialised shops

but new brands have recently emerged such as Fenty, by the singer Rihanna.

Other well-established brands such as Mac and Make Up For Ever are also developing new ranges for all skin tones.

But there is still a long road to go.

While make up retailers in many cities say they offer a wide variety of products.

In practice, some young women with dark skin say they have had to go to specialized shops which are often more expensive.

More than a million African soldiers served in colonial armies in World War II.

May 8, 1945, marks the 75th anniversary of the surrender of the German armed forces and the end of the Second World War in Europe.

More than a million Africans served as combatants as well as war workers and carriers in World War II for the colonial powers - more than half enlisted by Britain with the rest serving France and Belgium.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Allied landing in Provence in southern France, President Emmanuel Macron expressed gratitude for the contribution of African soldiers in defeating the German forces occupying France.

Senegalese writer and filmmaker Ousmane Sembene, himself a former colonial soldier, put it like this in a 2015 interview with DW: \"In war, we saw the white men naked and we have not forgotten that picture.\"

Nairobi — World Marathon record holder and the only man to run the 42km distance in under two hours, Eliud Kipchoge, says he will continue supporting Tottenham Hotspur despite Kenya captain Victor Wanyama's departure.

Kipchoge at the same time also believes Juventus and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo is the best footballer on earth.

While responding to a question on whether age matters to an athlete during a Webinar organized by the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) on Thursday evening, Kipchoge said he believes Cristiano is the best player because of his work ethic.

There is still a 19-year old kid in Juventus who cannot match Ronaldo even with his age,\" Kipchoge further stated.

Fortunately, while the COVID-19 is spreading around the world, China has achieved progress in controlling the epidemic, and has gradually resumed the economic and social operations, enabling it to free up its hands to accelerate the production of epidemic prevention materials to aid those countries with severe outbreaks.

Even in the upsurge of the global epidemic crisis, when the number of U.S. infection cases exceeded 100,000, ranking first in the world, Trump, nevertheless emphasized that the American people “must return to work” before Easter, and some politicians also publicly claimed it is more important to protect the economy than to save lives.

For developed countries in Europe and the United States, the medical system is more advanced than China, but because of different administrative ideas, they have not been able to use the wartime mode like in China to mobilize resources across the country to respond to the crisis.

This was achieved through use of face masks, protection suits and goggles that were provided to the medical personnel in priority, so that the loss of medical workers against the epidemic was greatly reduced, and the human resources for the treatment of patients with the virus can be sustained.

Facing the extreme shortage of medical workers in Wuhan, more than 40,000 medical people across the country were mobilized to go to the hospitals in Wuhan; when Wuhan hospital beds were not enough, two specialist infectious disease hospitals were built within 10 days, and numerous mobile cabin hospitals with tens of thousands of beds were set up; when epidemic prevention materials were in short supply in Wuhan, th

After 26 years on the run, on May 16, French authorities revealed that genocide architect Felicien Kabuga had been arrested in Paris, France.

According to a statement released after the arrest, the elusive suspect was arrested by French authorities as a result of a joint investigation with the IRMCT (International Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals) Office of the Prosecutor and other law enforcement and prosecution services from various countries including Rwanda.

Kabuga , who is now aged 85, was indicted by the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in 1997 on seven counts of genocide, complicity in genocide, direct and public incitement to commit genocide, attempt to commit genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, persecution, and extermination, all in relation to crimes committed during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

It is good that Felicien Kabuga was arrested because it would be absurd to know that he is freely roaming around when everyone knows how he financed the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi that claimed over a million lives.

Valerie Mukabayire, President of Avega Agahozo, a national association of widows of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi

Kabuga was a key player in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, and his acts made contributed a lot to the genocide.

Zimbabwe international forward, Tino Kadewere, yesterday trained for the first time with his new French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon.

Olympique Lyon have also signed on-loan Cameroon forward Karl Toko Ekambi from Villarreal on a four-year contract, the Ligue 1 club said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Amiens and Toulouse were given a lifeline yesterday when France's top administrative court suspended their relegation from the Ligue 1 soccer championship, although it upheld the curtailment of the season amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The LFP ended the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons in April with 10 games left after the government said no professional sport could return before September and Paris St Germain were awarded the league title -- their seventh in eight years.

\"The judge validates the terms defined by the league, in particular for the classification of the Ligue 1 championship,\" the State Council said in a statement yesterday.

In his budget presentation in the capital Dodoma, Finance minister Philip Mpango said government evaluations show the country had not been too badly affected by the pandemic, allowing it to raise its growth forecasts and maintain a firm financing schedule for ongoing development projects.

In a new World Bank report released on June 8, the bank predicted that Tanzania's economic growth would drop sharply to 2.5 per cent in 2020 due to the effects of the pandemic.

\"There are downside risks for even slower growth if additional health and economic policy measures to mitigate the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic are delayed or not well-targeted, or the external environment does not markedly improve this year,\" the bank said.

Dr Mpango said the budget recognised emerging opportunities from the pandemic in falling world oil prices, which have helped reduce transport and manufacturing costs for industries, rising gold prices, and a growing market for locally produced health products to combat Covid-19.

Dr Mpango said discussions are also ongoing with other potential external lenders including the World Bank through its Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility, the Economic Development Cooperation Fund run by the South Korea Exim Bank, the European Union's Covid-19 Response Package, and the IMF Rapid Credit Facility, which could provide up to $272 million in balance of payments support for the country.

Yaoundé is the capital and second largest city of Cameroon. Georg Zenker, a German scientist, led a group of people who settled Yaoundé in 1888. Yaoundé is located in the Ewondo region between the Nyong and Sanaga rivers in southern Cameroon. In 2012 an estimated 2.4 million people resided in Yaoundé.

Cameroon emerged as a major source of the slave trade in the sixteenth century. The Portuguese, British, French, Dutch, and Americans were heavily active in the New World trade along the coast. The Transatlantic Slave Trade was abolished in the 1800s, but European countries remained active in Africa. On the eve of the Partition of Africa Gustav Nachtigal, a German diplomat, signed a treaty with two Duala chiefs in 1884 that led to the establishment of German Kamerun. In 1909, Yaoundé became the capital of German Kamerun.

During World War I, British, French, and Belgian troops invaded German Kamerun. Belgian troops occupied Yaoundé throughout the war. Following the end of World War I, the League of Nations divided Kamerun, giving the British control of the eastern territory and the French control of the remainder of the territory. Yaoundé became the capital of French Cameroun. Infrastructure investments such as road and railway projects connected Yaoundé to Douala, the largest city in French Cameroun, and the northern region of the territory.

Following World War II, nationalism emerged in British Cameroons and French Cameroun. Nationalists formed the socialist Union des Populations du Cameroun (UPC) in 1948. The UPC called for independence from Great Britain and France and reunification of the two territories. On January 1, 1960 France granted independence to French Cameroun. Ahmadou Ahidjo became the first president of the Republic of Cameroon. In 1961, President Ahidjo reunified British Cameroons with the Republic and Yaoundé became the capital of independent Cameroon.

Ahidjo centralized political authority in Yaoundé. The capital’s population grew from 100,000 in 1960 to 314,000 in 1976. The University of

President Trump wants to paper over the living wound of racism. He’s issued Executive Orders and established a new national commission designed to whitewash our history—and deny the daily reality of being Black in America. He actively appeals to white supremacists and fans the flames of hatred and division in our country, because he thinks it benefits him politically. He ignores the most basic job of every president: the duty to care for all of us, not just those who voted for him.

Ben Harper is an American musician, known for his success as an artist, instrumental skills and social activism. He was born on October 28, 1969 as Benjamin Chase Harper to Leonard and Ellen-Chase Verdries in Pomona, California. His father was African American and his mother was Jewish. He came from a musical family which influenced him throughout his life. His father was a percussionist, his mother was a guitarist and singer and his maternal grandparents established a music store by the name of “The Folk Music Center and Museum”. Harper learned to play guitar at an early age and was initially attracted to hip-hop but soon turned to blues music in grand family tradition. As a child, Harper attended a concert by reggae legend Bob Marley which helped to define his tastes to a great extent.

Harper had his first stage appearance at the age of 12 and soon began to play the slide guitar in the style of American blues singer Robert Johnson. He then toured with Grammy Award winning blues musician Taj Mahal, and appeared on his 1990 album “Follow the Drinking Gourd”. Another collaboration in 1992, this time with Tom Freund, led to the 1992 album “Pleasure and Pain”. Harper’s own debut album was released in 1994, after he secured a record deal with Virgin Records. It was titled “Welcome to the Cruel World” and was followed by his second album “Fight For Your Mind” in 1995.

Harper was known for his socially conscious music. For instance, his first album “Welcome to the Cruel World” featured a track called “Like A King” which was a reference to both, Martin Luther King Jr. and Rondey King, who was beaten up by the police in a racially motivated incident. Another song on the album, “I Rise” had lyrics adapted from renowned African American author Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise”. His second album also contained socio-political messages and he often spoke against issues like racial prejudice. He also participated in the “Vote For Change” concert in 2004 to motivate people to vote in the 2004 U.S. Presidential Elections. He
