North Central Division police arrested a 36-year-old from Arouca who was found with a loaded gun and a quantity of marijuana on Monday.
A police statement said the man was held during an anti-crime exercise between 6 am and 9 am.
He was found with a Glock 23 pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition as well as a quantity of marijuana.
Investigations are ongoing into the matter.
In an unrelated incident, four people were arrested after warrants were executed at their homes for various offences.
ACP Subero, Snr Supt Ramphall and Supt Nowbutt led this exercise. It also included officers from the North Central Task Force, Court and Process Branch, Transit Police and Licensing Division.
