\t On Friday, internet and international calls were cut off across the West African nation in anticipation of the election results, according to locals and international observers in the capital, Conakry.

\t This was the third time that Conde matched-up against Diallo. Before the election, observers raised concerns that an electoral dispute could reignite ethnic tensions between Guinea's largest ethnic groups.

Such demonstrations have occurred for months after the government changed the constitution through a national referendum, allowing Conde to extend his decade in power. \n\n\t Opposition candidate Cellou Diallo received 33.50% of the vote, the electoral commission said. Voter turnout was almost 80%. \n\n\t Political tensions in the West African nation turned violent in recent days after Diallo claimed victory ahead of the official results. Celebrations by his supporters were suppressed when security forces fired tear gas to disperse them. \n\nThey accuse the electoral authorities of rigging the vote for incumbent president Alpha Conde. \n\n\n\t At least nine people have been killed since the election, according to the government. The violence sparked international condemnation by the U.S. and others. \n\n\t ``Today is a sad day for African democracy,'' said Sally Bilaly Sow, a Guinean blogger and activist living abroad. The government should take into account the will of the people who have a desire for change, he said. \n\nICC warning \n\nThe International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor warned on Friday that warring factions in Guinea could be prosecuted after fighting erupted. \n\n“I wish to repeat this important reminder: anyone who commits, orders, incites, encourages and contributes in any other way to crimes … is liable to prosecution either by the Guinean courts or the ICC,” she said. \n\n#ICC Prosecutor #FatouBensouda: "I wish to repeat this important reminder: anyone who commits, orders, incites, encourages or contributes, in any other way, to the commission of #RomeStatute crimes, is liable to prosecution either by #Guinean courts or by the #ICC."\r\n— Int'l Criminal Court (@IntlCrimCourt) October 23, 2020 \n\n\t On Friday, internet and international calls were cut off across the West African nation in anticipation of the election results, according to locals and international observers in the capital, Conakry. \n\n\t This was the third time that Conde matched-up against Diallo. Robert Brown Elliott, Reconstruction-era Congressman, was born in 1842 in Liverpool, England. He attended High Holborn Academy in London, England and then studied law, graduating from Eton College in 1859. From there he joined the British Royal Navy.  Elliott decided to settle in South Carolina in 1867.  He was admitted to the South Carolina bar in 1868 and began practicing law in Columbia, the state capital.  Elliott worked under the future Congressman Richard H. Cain as associate editor of the South Carolina Leader and was an elected delegate to the 1868 state constitution convention.  Later that year he won a seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives. In 1869, partly because of his military background, Elliott was appointed assistant adjutant-general for South Carolina.  He became the first African American commanding general of the South Carolina National Guard which as the state militia was charged with fighting the Ku Klux Klan.

In 1870 Elliott was nominated by the Republican Party to run for Congress from the Third Congressional District.  Elected in November, 1870, he took his seat in March 1871. While serving in Congress Elliot continuously fought the activities of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).  He also opposed the granting of general amnesty to ranking ex-Confederate military officers and civilians.

In 1872 Elliott was a candidate for one of South Carolina’s U.S. Senate seats but lost to fellow Republican John J. Patterson.  By 1874, Elliott believed that he could help push his reform agenda further at the state level and resigned his House seat.  He quickly won a seat in the South Carolina General Assembly in 1874.  In 1875 Elliott was elected Speaker of the General Assembly.

In 1876 Elliott was elected South Carolina Attorney General.  This would be his last public office.  Democrats returned to power in 1876, ending the state’s Reconstruction period.  Elliott continued to practice law until 1879 when he accepted an appointment as a special customs inspector for the Treasury Department. To fill the gap, our study examined the gendered implications of sporadic water supply for livelihoods in Tatale-Sanguli District.

We discovered that water shortages affected both men and women in the district, but weighed more on women than men.

A combination of reproductive and productive workload makes women more susceptible to the drudgery of sporadic water supply than men.

When water supply for agriculture is limited, some younger women and men move away temporarily to find different ways of earning a living, leaving older family members behind.

How to relieve women's burden

To relieve the people of the Tatale-Sanguli District from the drudgery of limited water supply, we recommend that the local government and non-governmental organisations should intensify their water provision efforts in the district.

Luanda — The National Assembly (AN) passed last Friday, in general terms, the bills that approve the Property Code and the Motor Vehicles Tax Code.

When presenting the bill that approves the Property Tax Code, the minister of Finance, Vera Daves, said it is time to make a deeper adjustment, adapting the diploma to the country's social and economic reality.

According to the minister, this tax will constitute one of the main sources of financing for future municipal administrations, based on Law No. 13/20 (Law on Financing of Local Governments).

With this diploma, the Executive starts to tax unproductive agricultural land, in order to encourage those who hold them to exploit their properties (agricultural land plots) or give them up (rent them or through another type of contract that they may prefer) to those who have financial conditions, as well as make the property tax revenue act as a typical revenue source for local governments.

By proposing the diploma, the government intends to revoke the Road Tax and, instead, put an additional taxation on cars with longer usage times.
