Ten-year-old Arya Joseph topped the 1K in the girls category, and also won the 19-and-under category of the 5K in the second annual run and family day hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (TTAEE) at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on June 30.

The Learning Living Institute student and member of One a Week Multi-Sport Club said, “I won the Caricom 1K race last year, and it felt wonderful to win in both races today. This event was a lot of fun, and I think we all need to be aware of how we use energy and how it affects the environment. Apart from winning, I learnt a lot about renewable energy at the booths. I will share this knowledge with my friends and family so that we can all join the energy movement.”

The TTAEE is the local chapter for the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, US.
TTAEE estimated over 300 people participated in the event, which represented the official launch of its Energy Transition Movement.
"This year’s run also included the traditional 5K and a 1K event for 12-and-under participants, as well as booths that offered sustainably sourced and innovative local cuisine, local juices, fresh grown produce, exotic fruits and plants," TTAEE said in a release.
President of NGC Green Toni Sirju-Ramnarine said she expects the event will become a fixture on the national running calendar.
“Our focus is helping to initiate a cleaner energy future through investment in low-carbon fuels, energy efficiency, sustainable transportation as well as research and development. This aligns with the objectives of the TTAEE and that’s why joined with them and other stakeholders today to raise awareness about energy-based issues. This event also encourages healthy lifestyles in a fun-filled family environment."
TTAEE vice president and AEE Energy Engineer of 2024 Graeme Jones said, “This is our second year hosting this networking and awareness event, and the response continues to be overwhelmingly positive. In fact, we expect to double the turnout next year and we’re already putting plans in place. It was especially great to see so many young people come out today – they embody the energy that we need to take the baton forward and usher our nation towards a victorious energy transition.”
