Political activist Kezel Jackson is thanking God for life after surviving a head-on collision in Aruba on Sunday.

In a conversation with Newsday, a thankful Jackson said she believes God still has a purpose for her and ensured that she escaped the accident unscathed.

'I know God has a purpose for me. I know I am not yet done,' she said.

'I work for the people and I have a lot of work to do for the people still.'

Jackson said on Sunday she was in Aruba on business and was being transported by a driver using a Jeep Wrangler from a rental company to Conchi natural pools on the Eastern coast. She said she noticed that the driver was speeding and she asked him to slow down.

'I positioned myself behind the driver's seat in case anything happened. He overtook another car while we were going around a corner and as he overtook, another vehicle was coming around the corner. We hit head-on.'

She confirmed that she managed to pull herself from the wreckage but blacked out shortly after. When she woke up, she realised she was in an ambulance on the way to a hospital. She was discharged from hospital after undergoing a series of tests.

She managed to escape the crash without any serious injury. However, she said she is experiencing pain because of whiplash.

The occupants of the other vehicle were not so lucky. Newsday understands that a family of four - a man, a woman and two children, were in the other car. Newsday was told that while the woman managed to escape with only cuts and bruises, the other occupants were seriously injured.

Newsday was told that the impact was so great that one of the two children - a toddler - was flung from the vehicle. The man, the toddler and another child who are now in serious condition at hospital.

Jackson said she will return to TT on Tuesday where she will prepare for registration for a book drive at the Brix Hotel in Cascade on Thursday and in Tobago on Friday.
