Logan Cup matches that started today with Mountaineers facing Eagles at Harare Sports Club and Tuskers taking on Rhinos at Old Hararians Sports Club marked the beginning of the 2020/21 season. The five provincial teams taking part in the first-class championship, including Southern Rocks, are all staying at a strictly controlled accommodation facility in the capital. Ncube said: “In line with the economic rebound projected in 2021, formal employment is projected to grow with about 150 000 formal jobs expected to be recovered after having been lost due to COVID-19 pandemic. “Similarly, incomes are also expected to rise, with per Gross National Income per capita expected to increase to US$1 835 from the current levels of US$1 156.” It is interesting that Ncube, conveniently, did not tell Parliament how many families had benefitted from the cash transfers for the poor and vulnerable. He also deliberately did not tell the august House how many jobs were saved by his $18 billion industry bailout he had announced in May. It’s not an oversight that the numbers were negligible, henmce, he was embarrassed to spell them out. Ncube went ahead and evaded another kick in the teeth by using euphemisms instead of direct language that government was going ahead to retrench workers and where possible suppress wages and salaries. by Kevin Mapasure FORMER Caps United and Warriors leftback Cephas Chimedza has revealed the heartbreak he suffered 15 years ago after missing out on an opportunity to break into the English second-tier league, the Championship. Chimedza shared letters from December 2004 and January 2005 on his Twitter page that show arrangements were being made for him to travel to England for trials with Sheffield United. The trials did not materialise in the end and after his followers on Twitter inquired why he never made it to the United Kingdom he only said the intermediary disappeared, after too many people got involved in the deal. 'The guy who was the intermediary didn't want any other people to get involved, so he just disappeared on the last minute,' he responded after followers, mostly Zimbabwean football fans got curious. Former Warriors midfielder Clemence Matawu, who recently announced retirement after a long and illustrious career, suggested that Chimedza should write a book about his experience as he had many interesting stories to share. Chimedza shared a letter from Sheffield United to the British High Commission in Harare requesting that he be granted a visa to travel for trials. 'We request that the above player be allowed to trial at Sheffield United,' the club wrote on December 29 2004, few weeks after Chimedza had been voted Soccer Star of the Year after leading Caps United to a league title. Then Caps United boss, Twine Phiri, consented to Chimedza trailing at Sheffield United. 'As per the attached letter from Sheffield United requesting the above mentioned player, Caps United hereby authorise him to proceed for trials as requested,' part of the letter read. Chimedza was pencilled to leave on January 5, but the trip never materialised. Instead, he was to move to Belgium that year to join Germinal Beershot and also played for Sint Truidense, before moving to lower leagues. Zama Mafu, allegedly beheaded his wife with an axe on Wednesday after finding her having sexual intercourse with one of the local herdman from the area. According to a close family member who narrated the tragic event on condition of anonymity, Mafu was greatly distressed after finding one of his wives intimate with a herdman. “This did not go well with Mafu because he failed to control his temper and murdered his wife with an axe,” a family source said. “Mafu was practicing polygamy and he built one of his homesteads in Dekezi a place commonly known as Nyoni. I really do not know what prompted him to do such a horrific act in our area. He was always sober-minded and rational,” one of his friends who identified himself as Xolani said. It is alleged that after Mafu beheaded his wife with an axe, he committed suicide by drinking cattle dip. Italian prosecutors formally put four high-ranking members of Egypt’s security forces under investigation on Thursday over the alleged 2016 kidnapping, torture and killing of Italian doctoral research student Giulio Regeni — whose body was found on a highway in Cairo. Sergio Colaiocco, a prosecutor in Rome, Italy, told a session of a special parliamentary commission on the slaying of Giulio Regeni.

South Africa's chief justice on Friday vehemently defended a prayer he made against \"satanic\" Covid-19 vaccines, seeming to refer to a conspiracy theory that they could \"infuse 666\" into people's DNA.
Mogoeng Mogoeng, a devout Christian, came under strong criticism on social media following the prayer at an event in Johannesburg on Thursday to honour people who died from Covid-19 in Africa's hardest-hit country.
\"I lockout every demon of Covid-19, I lock out any vaccine that is not of you, if there be any vaccine that is of the devil meant to infuse 666 in the lives of people, meant to corrupt your DNA,\" he said in the prayer.
On Friday he told a media conference that he would not be dissuaded from speaking against or praying against possible \"satanic\" vaccines.
\"You can't say we must, as Christians, just fold our arms and say 'whatever people come with' is fine. No. We can't,\" he said.
\"If there is a vaccine with 666, I want God to destroy it. If there is any vaccine meant to corrupt the DNA of people, I'm asking God to interrupt it. Any clean vaccine, they must produce it quickly,\" he said.
On Wednesday South Africa declared that it had entered a second wave of the pandemic as the number of new infections surged, with nearly 837,000 cumulative cases and more than 22,700 deaths.
The government has warned against spreading misinformation about the coronavirus, as it waits to secure its first vaccine doses through the COVAX global distribution scheme.
But Mogoeng said he was unfazed by any backlash and that nothing stopped him from commenting on any issues because of his judicial responsibilities.
\"This is a free country. I'm not going to be silenced. I don't care about the consequences,\" he said.
In June this year the judge sparked an outcry for remarks seen as pledging support for Israel.
\"I cannot, as a Christian, do anything other than love and pray for Israel,\" he said then.
