Connecticut (BNC)– ESPN’s Alex Scarborough confirmed Friday June 19 that NCAA officials passed a new policy that bans all of its championship events from being held in states that still fly the Confederate flag.
This could have direct impact on the South Eastern Conference (SEC) and South Western Athletic Conference (SWAC) , as both conferences have tenured schools from the state of Mississippi in their respective conference.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made a statement via Twitter in reaction to this new policy,:
“It is past time for change to be made to the flag of the State of Mississippi, Our students deserve an opportunity to learn and compete in environment that are inclusive and welcoming to all.
If Mississippi refuses to change their flag this time, they will consider banning championship events from the state until it is.”
Alcorn State University located in Lorman, Mississippi, has held that privilege of hosting the SWAC Championship game for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Russell Westbrook first arrived in Houston in July 2019.

Garrett Rolfe, the former Atlanta Police officer who shot and killed 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks, was granted a $500,000 bond on Tuesday.
After Brooks struggled with Rolfe and Officer Devin Brosnan, grabbing Brosnan’s Taser and fleeing with it, Rolfe shot Brooks in the back as he fled.
Rolfe’s attorney’s blamed Brooks for escalating the situation and said the officer “had no choice but to use deadly force.”
By contrast, prosecutors emphasized that Brooks was running away at the time that Rolfe opened fire, and highlighted witness testimonies and video footage that indicate Rolfe kicked Brooks after he was shot.
“I can just only imagine how scared he was and what he felt at that time,” Miller said of the video footage that captured the moment Rolfe kicked Brooks as he lay on the ground.
By ILAN BEN ZION Associated Press JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli government on Thursday urged its citizens to avoid travel to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, citing threats of Iranian attacks. ATLANTA (AP) — The tenor of the protests set off by the death of George Floyd at the hands of police has taken a turn from the explosive anger that has fueled the setting of fires, breaking of windows and other violence to a quiet, yet more forceful, grassroots call for more to be done to address racial injustice.
At demonstration sites around the country, protesters said the quieter mood is the result of several factors: the new and upgraded criminal charges against the police officers involved in Floyd’s arrest; a more conciliatory approach by police who have marched with them or taken a knee to recognize their message; and the realization that the burst of rage after Floyd’s death is not sustainable.
They promised Thursday that officers would display their badge numbers, following complaints by protesters about the black bands police had placed on their badges to honor colleagues killed while on duty.
Protesters in some cities feel support from both police and white people is growing.
There have been instances of police kneeling and earlier this week in New York City, the crowd chanted for the officers who were standing in the distance to join them.

Help save lives this summer at the Atlanta Hawks Blood Drive in partnership with Budweiser
Donors urgently needed July 10 at State Farm Arena to prevent blood shortage
ATLANTA (June 26, 2020) — The American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood donations to prevent another blood shortage as hospitals resume surgical procedures and patient treatments that were temporarily paused earlier this spring in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s why the community is invited to team up with the Red Cross and Atlanta Hawks at their summer blood drive, in partnership with Budweiser and sponsored by 11 Alive, Friday, July 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at State Farm Arena, 1 State Farm Dr. in Atlanta.
There is no known end date in this fight against coronavirus, and the Red Cross urgently needs the help of donors and blood drive hosts to ensure blood products are readily available for patients.
Donors who help support the urgent need by giving at this drive will be able to view their results 7-10 days after donation through the Red Cross Blood Donor App or at RedCrossBlood.org.
Each Red Cross blood drive and donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and additional precautions – including temperature checks, social distancing and face coverings for donors and staff – have been implemented to ensure the health of all those in attendance.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt has removed the interim title, making Candice Storey Lee the first woman to become an athletic director in the Southeastern Conference.
That made Lee the first woman to run athletics at Vanderbilt, and she said she was incredibly honored and could not be in this position without the support of Vanderbilt’s leadership, coaches, staff and fans.
Lee joins Carla Williams at Virginia as the only black women athletic directors at a Power Five school, with Sandy Barbour at Penn State, Jennifer Cohen at Washington and Heather Lyke at Pittsburgh the other women ADs.
She became Vanderbilt’s senior woman administrator in the athletics department in 2004 and deputy athletic director in 2016.
Susan R. Wente, Vanderbilt’s interim chancellor and provost, said Lee hit the ground running after being appointed interim athletic director earlier this year.
