Free legal aid advice in Cunupia - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

ANYONE needing legal advice can attend a free community legal aid clinic on Saturday hosted by In God’s Grace Ministries

It will be held at 307 Southern Main Road, Cunupia, from 9 am to 2 pm.

Legal professionals will provide free advice on criminal, civil, family and matrimonial, land and property, wills, estate and probate matters, among others.

Attorney Stacy Ann Ramkhelawan-Ragoonath said “the event is open to anyone that needs legal advice. We have a physical space for interested parties to attend the clinic. However, as part of our mandate to ensure everyone has access to justice, we are providing virtual consultations as well.”

She said the clinic is being led by herself with a legal administrative support team – Toni Ellis and Kahfee Freitas.

There will be at least three attorneys ready to provide legal advice, she said.

Ragoonath said she chose the Cunupia community because it has it own unique challenges.

“This was the first community that opened its doors for us. Pastor Solomon De La Rosa gracefully made his church available to us, collaborating with us on this initiative, for which we are grateful.”

The legal aid clinic is also available to those who are not members of the community.

“We recognise that not everyone has access to justice, which may be due to a number of factors including financial, social or even geographical. Furthermore, persons are not always aware of their rights and avenues of recourse that are available to them. As well as it is also a way to give back to our community as part of our social responsibility,” Ragoonath said.

In God’s Grace Ministries has been involved in previous outreach programmes such as facilitating and engineering youth programmes and monthly food drives that contributed to the community. These programmes were not limited to residents in the area but also available to migrant communities, such as Venezuelans.

The legal aid clinic provides another opportunity for In God’s Grace Ministries to give back to residents, she said.

Pastor Solomon De La Rosa said the church’s lawyer bought the consultation to his attention and that he would love to do more partnering with the legal team in efforts to both connect and contribute as a ministry to the community.

Those attending must walk with a valid form of ID and any supporting documents. Pre-registration is required. For more information call or WhatsApp: 495-7840.
