Detroit, MI — According to Fox 2 Detroit and the Ebony Foundation, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has been granted an early release from prison.
The foundation reportedly partnered with several other black leaders to petition for Kilpatrick’s release.
Those who petitioned President Trump for his release included the National Baptist Convention of America, the NAACP, the National Business League, and several pastors of Black churches across the country.
One of those pastors was Jamal Bryant, whose Atlanta-based New Birth Church has more than 25,000 members.
Kilpatrick, who is now 49-years old, was elected Mayor of Detroit in the year 2001, but he resigned in 2008 after a text message sex scandal involving his chief of staff.
