Football coach Michael De Four remembered as a 'true inspiration' - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

FOOTBALL coach Michael De Four was remembered for his inspiration and laughter at his funeral service at Holy Trinity Parish in Arouca on July 25.

De Four, 62, died on July 10. De Four was the coach and president of Eagles FC, formerly known as Cunupia FC.

De Four was a passionate coach, always trying to improve the situation at his club by trying to get more sponsors on board. The club also launched their own website earlier this year.

His family knew him off the playing field.

"A father, mentor and inspiration," was how one of his daughter's Juanita Nottingham described him.

Nottingham said her father took an interest in teenagers and young adults as he wanted to see them stay away from a life of crime.

He loved a "good laugh" and was known for his "stale jokes" was how another daughter Attiana Hunte remembered De Four.

Hunte, who said he loved his grandchildren, agreed with Nottingham that De Four was a "true inspiration."

"An example from nothing to something."

Members of the football fraternity attended the funeral, including national footballer Kevon "Showtime" Woodley. Woodley was one of the pallbearers.

During his coaching days, De Four wanted his team to play an entertaining, fast-paced and attacking brand of football. Eagles FC, formed more than 15 years ago, have moved up the ranks of local football being in the lower tiers previously and now playing in the TT Premier Football League.

Eagles FC have won multiple titles over the years.

The Ramsingh Sports World Central Football Association (CFA) FA trophy (2012 and 2014), Sanitank CFA League Cup (2013) and the CNG National Gas Company National Super League Championship Division (2016) are some of the titles Eagles FC have claimed in their history.

President of the TT Football Association Kieron Edwards also reflected on De Four's life. In a statement following his death, Edwards said, “this is extremely sad for the local football fraternity. He touched the lives of many with his leadership, wisdom, passion and unwavering commitment to the game and his club."
