A former fitness trainer at Anytime Fitness in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, lost his job after advertising a new workout dubbed “I Can’t Breathe.”
On Thursday evening, the owners of the Wauwatosa franchise said in a statement on their Facebook page that they had fired the trainer.
On Wednesday, the co-owner of the franchise, John Mathie, said in a video on the franchise’s Facebook page that he’s familiar with the “the outrage, based on the actions of the past 24 hours.”
Together with his business partner, Jen Dunnington, Mathie said they’re going to ensure the franchise is among the first to take part in the antiracism training launched by the parent company last week.
When Anytime Fitness advertised its new workout named “I Can’t Breathe,” online users expressed their disgust at the gym, saying it was mocking the death of an innocent black man, George Floyd.
