The Dallas City Council unanimously approved the first Office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability (OEQS) Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP) on Wednesday, May 27.
The CECAP will ensure the City is taking necessary steps to overcome environmental challenges and to make Dallas a global leader in addressing environmental issues.
For about a year, the City’s most dedicated environmental advocates worked tirelessly beside a diverse coalition of residents, the business community, and other stakeholders to ensure that an effective, equitable and common-sense approach was applied to deliver the plan on time.
The CECAP plan represents a cohesive path forward toward greenhouse gas emissions compliance by 2050 and the highest levels of environmental performance in every zip code within the city.
“From the beginning, community input was sought out in a completely open and transparent public process which allowed us to present a community created climate action plan which will be recognized and utilized for generations to come,” said Council Member Omar Narvaez, Environmental and Sustainability committee chair.
