POWERBOAT racers preparing for the 2023 Great Race were keenly anticipating the event on Saturday during the boat show, which is held to build camaraderie and bring awareness to the upcoming event. This year’s Great Race will be held on August 19.
The boat show was held for the first time at West Park (opposite West Mall) in Westmoorings.
Ironman, Knot in Slow Motion, Extreme Measures, Timeless and Outlaw were among the boats that participated in the boat show. Carib girls also attended the boat show.
Carib is one of the title sponsors of the event, along with the National Lotteries Control Board.
Driver of Ironman Wayne Honnock said his team is ready for the games.
“I think everything ran well (this year). Ironman has been a very consistent boat competing in most of the races. We only had a problem at the first regatta where we had a little oil leak…other than that Ironman has taken part in all the regattas with no problems, no issues.”
Guy Costa, throttleman of Ironman, said he likes the new venue for the boat show but challenged the TT Powerboat Association (TTPBA) to have it in other areas of Trinidad apart from West Trinidad and Port of Spain.

Costa said most of the work on the boat has been completed.
“Most of the pre-race preparations have been done. We just need to get the boat in the water, do some testing, make sure everything is working and just fine tune everything for the day.”
President of the TTPBA Johnathan Tardieu thanked the Diego Martin Regional Corporation for allowing the association to have the boat show at West Park.
The 2023 Great Race will see boats making the journey from West Trinidad to Store Bay, Tobago.
