I wish to refer to an article in yesterday’s, Monday 29th June 2020 issue of the Stabroek News under the caption `Women and Gender Equality Commission condemns attacks against Mottley’.
As the Deputy Chairperson of the Women and Gender Equality Commission and the representative of the National Congress of Women (NCW) on that Commission, I wish to record that the Commission has not met as a body in months due to the current COVID-19 situation.
There was no e-mail circulated to members of the Commission nor did I receive any phone call in relation to the publication of this statement.
I called at least two other Commissioners who were just as surprised that such an article was issued in the name of the Commission and they were not notified.
As such I would like to distance myself from this article.

CAPE TOWN, (Reuters) – Cricket South Africa (CSA) will finally get to trial a new format that will see three teams compete in a single 36-over match on July 18 after winning government approval for the fixture to be played at SuperSport Park in Pretoria.
CSA had to postpone the match from its original date of June 27 as the government had not provided the necessary approval for training and match-day protocols.
However, the players returned to the nets on Monday and the game will now be staged on the 102nd anniversary of the birth of former president Nelson Mandela.
The fixture is a chance for the country’s leading players to get some game-time under their belts in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, but will also raise funds for charity.
South Africa is still seeing a steady rise in COVID-19 cases, with the province of Gauteng, where the fixture is to be played, reporting a sharp increase in the past week.

When U.S. Park Police forcefully pushed peaceful protesters away from the White House and Lafayette Square on June 1, they performed a “violent and senseless operation,” said Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva, D-Ariz, chairman of the Natural Resources Committee, during a Congressional hearing about the incident on Monday.
Around 6:30 p.m. — a half-hour before Washington D.C.’s curfew — videos show U.S. Park Police using projectiles, batons, and gas to move protesters away from the park.
Among the hearing’s witnesses was Washington D.C. resident Kishon McDonald, who is a plaintiff in an ACLU lawsuit over the force used to move Lafayette Square protesters.

Almost a decade to the date, LeBron James made his infamous decision to take his talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat.
According to ESPN’s Don Van Natta Jr., the producer of the mini-doc that chronicled LeBron’s Decision, Drew Wagner emailed the following question to Simmons:
“What if LeBron announces he will pick his 2010-11 team live on ABC on a certain date for a show called ‘LeBron’s Choice?
Bill Simmons eventually took that idea to his bosses at ESPN before bringing the proposal to LeBron’s team.
Eventually, all the details were ironed out, and the president of ESPN at the time, John Skipper, gave LeBron an hour of primetime television on July 8 for his decision.
The show went on to make LeBron public enemy number one for years to come, and he played up to that “villain” mentality for all his years in Miami.
