Just days after police in Atlanta responded to a sleepy, unarmed Black man by shooting him in the back, cops in New Mexico didn’t use their guns once while detaining armed white vigilantes following a shooting at a protest.
That’s when members of the New Mexico Civil Guard, an armed militia of white vigilantes without any law enforcement authority arrived with “All Lives Matter” signs, according to the Washington Post.
As the New Mexico Civil Guard clashed with protesters, multiple gunshots were eventually fired and one man was struck.
While it was unclear whether the shooting victim was a protester or a member of the New Mexico Civil Guard, police officers responded to the scene by peacefully detaining everybody associated with the armed vigilantes.
Instead, the police fired off tear gas at the protesters after carefully detaining the New Mexico Civil Guard members.
