[Atlantic Council] In June, the remains of Patrice Lumumba--the Democratic Republic of the Congo's (DRC) first prime minister--were repatriated from Belgium to his native land, sixty-one years after his assassination. If Lumumba were returning alive to the country today, he would be shocked: His prophecy for a prosperous DRC, which he penned in his final letter to his wife, has not been fulfilled, despite the abundance of natural, economic, human, and cultural resources in the country.
