Hotel owners and property managers have been advised to carry out thorough background checks on potential employees before hiring them.Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Manager with Ocean Hotels Group, Philip Brathwaite, who offered the suggestion, said that background checks on prospective employees are a good way to keep guests and staff safe.Delivering remarks on Wednesday at the Caribbean Hotel Tourism Association’s (CHTA) webinar entitled, Visitor and Employee Safety: A Roundtable on Crime Prevention Destination and Hotel Practices, Brathwaite said it is important that employees be carefully screened before they are allowed into the operation.“Producing a clean certificate of character doesn’t necessarily mean that all is well with the person you are looking to bring on as a new team member. It’s always good to do further background checks. A person can have a pending case before the courts, and unless a charge or conviction is made against them, their record will be clean,” he said.
