A 37-year-old man from Bank Village in Carapichaima faced a Couva magistrate on Monday charged with murder, attempted murder and several gun-related offences.
Anil Roopnarine, also called Anil Narine and Budett, of Sinaswee Street, appeared before magistrate Alexander Prince, who denied bail and remanded him into custody to reappear in court next month.
The charges stemmed from a shooting at around 3 pm on October 13, at Nizam Mohammed Street in Bank Village, that left Joshua “Starboi Joshie” Muniram dead and a friend, 31, wounded.
The police said a group of gunmen ran into the yard and shot them. Muniram and his friend were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he later died.
Supt Dhilpaul of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (Region III) led investigations, which included other members of the bureau as well as Freeport CID.
A few days ago, deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal instructed the police to charge Roopnarine with murder, attempted murder, having a gun and ammunition, and having the gun and ammunition with intent to endanger lives.
