TRINIDAD AND Tobago's Em-Miryam Campbell-Smith partnered with American Sofia Mills to win girls' Under-14 doubles gold at the Copa Maiz Junior Tennis Tournament in Dominican Republic on Wednesday.
The TT/US pair defeated Daniela Macario/Julianny de la Cruz of the host nation 6-1, 6-4 in the final.
In the earlier rounds, Campbell-Smith and Mills cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Montserrat Gonzalez/Leslie Mancebo. The duo then put on another dominant 6-2, 6-3 display against Maria Rozhkov/Yelena Sanchez in the semi-final.
Campbell-Smith also contested the girls' singles and won her opening match against Sanchez 6-0, 6-1. She was however, ironically eliminated by her doubles partner Mills 7-5, 6-1 in the second round.
And in the boys' U-14 singles, Em-Miryam's brother, Yeshowah was ousted 6-3, 7-6(6) by Jose Duran of Dominican Republic in his first round match.
He also teamed up with Licairac Eduardo to reach the doubles quarter-final but was beaten 6-3, 7-5 by Nomar Cortorreal and Duran.
