In a letter penned by former president Compaoré and read out Tuesday by Burkina’s government spokesman, the ex-leader said he "ask the Burkinabe people for forgiveness [...] especially Thomas Sankara's family". Compaoré was sentenced to life in the Sankara murder trial that took place last April.
