The report, Reconstruction in America, documents more than 2,000 black victims of racial terror lynchings killed between the end of the civil war in 1865 and the collapse of federal efforts to protect the lives and voting rights of black Americans in 1876.
In that brief 12-year period, known as Reconstruction, a reign of terror was unleashed by Confederate veterans and former slave owners in a brazen effort to keep black people enslaved in all but name.
The report is a prequel to EJI’s groundbreaking 2015 research that identified and recorded more than 4,400 black victims of racial terror lynchings from the post-Reconstruction period, 1877 to 1950.
The new report allows that grim tally to be further expanded with the addition of the 2,000 documented victims from the Reconstruction era itself – bringing the total number of documented cases of black people who were supposedly free yet were lynched in the most sadistic fashion to a staggering 6,500 men, women and children.
Bryan Stevenson, EJI’s executive director, told the Guardian that the new report highlights the capitulation and complicity of American institutions – from local sheriffs right up to the US supreme court in Washington – in the face of white supremacist violence.

The growing disdain for Biden among young Democratic voters has been predicted to dwindle with the promise of a Black woman as vice president, but for many, this is not the case.
This sentiment is shared amongst many young Black voters who are weary of the Democratic Party’s unfulfilled promises as a whole.
Still, other young Black voters aren’t impressed with the pool of choices, and the disdain for Biden is so much that they would risk another four years of Trump.
“I hate to say it, but between Biden and Trump, I’d still vote Trump,” says one young Black woman.
There seems to be no guarantee that the Democratic party will achieve its intended end if Biden chooses a Black woman to run alongside him.

The key to a Democratic win in November is voter turnout, which former first lady Michelle Obama knows all too well.
In an interview conducted by TV showrunner Shonda Rhimes for Harper’s Bazaar, Michelle Obama said, “Some folks don’t see the impact of their vote on their day-to-day lives—if the trains still run, the kids are still going to school, and they still have a job, what difference does one vote really make, right?
Obama also pushed people to see beyond just the president when voting, “So every single person out there needs to ask themselves, do they trust the folks in charge to make the right call?
She also gave talking points for people how to dismiss their vote, “When I’m talking to young people, I like to ask them a simple question: Would you let your grandma decide what you wear on a night out to the club?
Not many people want someone else making their decisions for them, especially when that person might not see the world the same way as they do.”
However, democrats believe that this effort is less about fighting voter fraud and more about enabling voter suppression and making the voting process especially difficult for black voters and other minorities.
Republicans are able to do this in part because of a 2018 federal court ruling that allows the national republican party to start campaigns against alleged voter fraud without court approval.
There was previously a ban on republican party voter-fraud operations after courts found instances of republicans intimidating or prioritizing the exclusion of minority voters, with the most recent account taking place in 2004.
The ongoing global pandemic is also having an impact on the voting process, with several democrats calling for the expansion of voting by mail and some republicans saying that doing so would invite voter fraud.
Fair Fight also believes that republican spending on alleged voter suppression will far exceed $20 million.

I have read and heard from many citizens who have raised
questions about the actions of MARTA regarding the disparity and inequities in the services and which routes were eliminated.
In order to address these concerns, the MARTA board owes the citizens of
DeKalb, Fulton, and Clayton counties an explanation as to how the routes were selected and why, and a vote by the MARTA board to re-establish those routes that were eliminated.

BY MTHANDAZO NYONI BULAWAYO city’s supply dams are 70,39% full, with the local authority saying it is progressively moving towards suspending the water-shedding programme. According to the city’s inflows summary report, the dams were at 70,39% full as at March 5, 2021, which is enough to last for 14 months without council implementing any rationing programme. Insiza Mayfair was 84,24% full, Upper Ncema (75,29%), Mtshabezi (64,54%), Inyankuni (66,39%), Lower Ncema (44,49%) and Umzingwane (36,22%). Officiating at the Dan Church Aid water response project ground-breaking ceremony held in the city on Thursday last week, Bulawayo deputy mayor Mlandu Ncube said they would progressively reduce water-shedding. Ncube said he hoped that by next week, council would be able to provide residents with water on a daily basis. “We have been able to replace equipment such as the flow serve pumps and conduct various repairs and upgrades to our waterworks. “We are also grateful that the recent rains allow us to have a bumper harvest,” he said. Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, Climate and Rural Settlement minister Anxious Masuka last week told the National Assembly that urban centres were unlikely to face water challenges this year due to the good rains that have been received so far. President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week commissioned the Nyamandlovu Epping Forest Water Supply Augmentation Project for Bulawayo which delivers 20 megalitres of water per day as part of efforts to address the city’s persistent water challenges. Government through the Zimbabwe National Water Authority and other partners worked on the Epping Forest Project. Output from the Epping Forest project, when combined with that from the Rochester Scheme in Nyamandlovu, has helped bring relief to water-starved Bulawayo. The city last year decommissioned three of its six main supply dams, Umzingwane, Upper Ncema and Lower Ncema due to low water levels. The dams have since been recommissioned.
NNPA NEWSWIRE — “Indiana has some incredibly restrictive voter laws, and currently we only have one early voting site in all of Indianapolis,” stated Robert Shegog, CEO at the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper and Indiana Minority Business Magazine. “A few more will open Oct. 24, but significantly more are needed given the size of the city. However, it is very refreshing to see so many people voting early. This has been a trend in Indianapolis for over ten years now, and the numbers keep increasing,” Shegog noted.
