The 2020 BET Awards premiered last night on the network in a virtual presentation amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
However, during the annual in memoriam segment, the network misidentified one of the deceased as former San Francisco mayor, Willie Brown, Jr.

Former NFL star, Willie Brown, died in October of last year.
London Breed is the current mayor of San Francisco where she is the first Black woman and, after Brown, the second Black mayor of the city.

BET has yet to issue a statement about the mixup.
