A November 26 letter from the presidency asked the head of Uganda's national drug authority to 'work out a mechanism' to clear the importation of the vaccines.

China has about five COVID-19 vaccine candidates at different levels of trials. It was not clear what vaccine was being imported into Uganda.

One of the frontrunners is the Sinopharm vaccine developed by the Beijing Institute of Biological Product, a unit of Sinopharm’s China National Biotec Group (CNBG).

On Wednesday, the United Arab Emirates said the vaccine has 86% efficacy, citing an interim analysis of late-stage clinical trials.

China has used the drug to vaccinate up to a million people under its emergency use program.

On Tuesday, Morocco said it was ordering up to 10 million doses of the vaccine.

Record cases

Uganda on Monday registered 701 new COVID-19 cases, the highest-ever daily increase, bringing its national count to 23,200.

The new cases were out of the 5,578 samples tested for the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, the country's health ministry said in a statement.

Tuesday's tally was 606, the second-highest ever number of new infections, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the east African country to 23,860.

Health authorities have blamed ongoing election campaigns which have drawn huge crowds for the rise in infections.

\"Kibera is worrying as it now has eight cases and we will make a decision based on scientific research,\" Mr Kagwe said.

Kenya, which confirmed its first case of the virus on March 13, had tested a total of 55, 074 samples from different parts of the county by May 22.

At the same briefing in Machakos, Mr Kagwe announced that Kenya will no longer import Personal protective equipment (PPE) because local manufacturers are now able to produce quality gears for health workers.

The number of new COVID-19 cases continue to drop in Black neighborhoods as Chicago moves closer to Phase 4 of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s plan to reopen the city.

According to Pritzker’s plan for reopening Illinois, for any of the four regions to move to the next phase, the positivity rate must be under a 20 percent positivity rate and increasing no more than 10 percentage points over a 14-day period.

“The trail is one of our city’s most treasured lakefront amenities,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Michael Kelly.

While the trail will open, all other lakefront amenities including outdoor fitness equipment athletic fields and beaches will remain closed while public health officials advise the District on options to open safely.

Chicago’s swimming pools and playgrounds will remain closed while public health officials advise the Chicago Park District on options to open them safely.

MIAMI — The state of Florida has set another record in daily confirmed coronavirus cases.

Florida health officials on Saturday reported more than 9,500 new COVID-19 cases, surpassing the previous day's total by more than 600 confirmed cases.

The state's Department of Health said 24 more people have died with COVID-19, raising the death toll to 3,390.

Although they are not rising as dramatically as the reported number of cases, they are approaching the levels of new admissions seen in April and May.

Miami-Dade County announced late Friday it would reclose beaches from July 3 to July 7 to prevent large gatherings and the spread of the new virus during Fourth of July celebrations in the state's hardest-hit area.

The Ministry of Health is banking on the community policing groups such as the Nyumba Kumi Initiative, local administration and estate groups to monitor the Covid-19 patients on home-based care.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi said this on Monday when she announced 59 new Covid-19 cases, raising the national tally to 4,797.

She said this as the government released more than 600 Covid-19 patients showing no symptoms for home-based care, stepping up its plans to free-up bed spaces for seriously-ill patients in hospitals.

The ministry launched the home-based care a fortnight ago to lessen the burden being borne by public facilities owing to the increasing number of Covid-19 patients.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — As large parts of the U.S. ease their lockdowns against the coronavirus, public health officials in some states are being accused of bungling infection statistics or even deliberately using a little sleight of hand to make the some of the data look better than they are.

In Georgia, one of the earliest states to ease up on lockdowns and assure the public it was safe to go out again, the Department of Public Health published a graph around May 11 that showed new COVID-19 cases declining over time in the most severely affected counties.

In Texas, where health officials said last week that they were including some antibody results in their testing totals and case counts, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott said Monday that the numbers were not being commingled.

Georgia’s Department of Public Health also regularly publishes a graph that shows cases over time, except new infections are not listed on the day they came back positive, which is the practice in many other states.

As for the May 11 graph, Broce said public health officials were trying to highlight which days had seen the highest peaks of infections.

In an ongoing effort to help slow the spread of the virus, CVS Health June 25 expanded its COVID-19 testing program by announcing 13 additional test sites at select CVS Pharmacy drive-thru locations across South Carolina.

The nearly 200 additional test sites opening across the country this week are among the more than 1,400 locations CVS Health has opened since May and expand the company’s testing capacity to more than 1.5 million tests per month, subject to availability of supplies and lab capacity.

In addition to the drive-thru sites, CVS Health has partnered with a number of community organizations to open eight rapid-response community testing sites across the country, which aim to increase access to testing for uninsured and underserved populations who are at highest risk for COVID-19.

“One of our greatest strengths as a company is our local presence in communities across the country, which enables us to uniquely expand people’s access to safe and effective COVID-19 testing options and respond to a need for increased testing capacity,” said Larry J. Merlo, President and CEO, CVS Health.

Nearly sixty percent of the company’s 1,400 test sites across the country, including 72% of sites in South Carolina, are in counties that serve communities with the greatest need for support, as measured by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Social Vulnerability Index.

DALLAS — To encourage people to wear face coverings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Mayor Eric Johnson temporarily changed his official portrait Monday to a new photo of him in a mask.

The new temporary portrait, which hangs in Dallas City Hall and at Love Field, is meant to model the responsible behavior for others.

Officials   and City of Dallas Health and Healthcare Access Czar Dr. Kelvin Baggett have also strongly encouraged people to wear masks in public and to practice social distancing as the Texas economy has been reopening in phases.

Dallas County has recorded a total of 14,537 COVID-19 cases and 285 deaths.

About 55% of the cases in Dallas County so far have been city of Dallas residents.

The flag of Biafra (1967-70) is sometimes associated with contemporary Igbo nationalism

Igbo nationalism is an umbrella term that refers to a range of ethnic nationalist ideologies relating to the Igbo ethnic group. While the term is defined as seeking Igbo self-determination by some, others argue that it refers to the preservation and revival of Igbo culture and, for others, the development of Igboland stemming from the philosophy, Aku luo uno, which means wealth builds the home. (July 2016) (Learn how and when to remove this template message) \n\n \nThe flag of Biafra (1967-70) is sometimes associated with contemporary Igbo nationalism\n\n\nIgbo nationalism is an umbrella term that refers to a range of ethnic nationalist ideologies relating to the Igbo ethnic group. While the term is defined as seeking Igbo self-determination by some, others argue that it refers to the preservation and revival of Igbo culture and, for others, the development of Igboland stemming from the philosophy, Aku luo uno, which means wealth builds the home.
