A STROKE-FILLED unbeaten century from Trinidad and Tobago batsman Andrew Rambaran was in vain as their second-round match in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 Two-Day Championship against Jamaica ended in a draw at Park Hill Playing Field in Colonarie, St Vincent on July 15.
Rambaran struck 14 fours and three sixes in his innings of 109 not out off 132 deliveries.
Half of the day’s play on the second day was lost because of rain. When play finally bowled off, TT scored 250/9 declared in their first innings after starting the day on 171/7.
Rambaran, who was 49 not out overnight, found an able partner in Jacen Agard. The pair added 90 runs for the eighth wicket, guiding TT from 146/7 to 236 when Agard fell for 25 off 78 balls.
TT earned a lead of 81 runs on first innings after Jamaica declared on 169/9 on day one.
Batting again late on day two, Jamaica closed on 97/2 with Adrian Weir belting an aggressive 56 off 32 balls with five fours and four sixes. Jordan Johnson pitched in with 28 not out as Jamaica ended the day with a lead of 16 runs.
The other round two matches also ended in draws.
The third and final preliminary round will bowl off on July 17. The top two teams after the group phase will play for the title on July 20 and 21.
Following the two-day competition, a 50-over tournament will begin on July 23.
